Home Exercise Equipment Fails to Deliver on Promise of Hard Bodies for All

According to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, the sales figures for home exercise equipment have doubled during the past decade and health club memberships have increased 63%. But statistics from the Centers for Disease Control indicate that despite increased spending on equipment to eliminate love handles, trim hips and thighs, or reduce belly fat, Americans are losing their war on fat.
“No machine can ‘target’ the fat on your hips or stomach or butt,” explains healthy fitness expert Anthony Ellis and creator of the Gaining Mass! system. “No one who has trouble gaining lean muscle mass can expect to achieve lasting results using equipment. It just doesn’t work that way.”

Because so much effort ends up producing so few results, says Ellis, a hard gainer’s equipment (and gym membership) are likely to end up gathering dust. Weight training is needed only to stimulate growth, and for hard gainers less is more. “Lean muscle mass doesn’t grow during a workout,” Ellis explains. “It develops after a workout, when the body is resting.”
The body needs rest and food to build and re-build the muscle, says Ellis. “Hard gainers need more rest and food than others to fully restore they systems.” If hard gainers don’t address the unique challenges of their body types and fail to approach health and fitness from a ‘whole body’ perspective, Ellis says, “Their efforts will be doomed.”
